fl. c. 300–400 · latin · author
Latin translator of and commentator on Plato's Timaeus, and the earliest Latin on this daf. Almost nothing about him is settled: the commentary is dedicated to an Osius who is traditionally, but not certainly, identified with Hosius of Cordoba, which is the only ground for placing him there; the date has been argued anywhere from the early fourth century to the fifth; and whether he was a Christian at all is disputed, though he quotes Genesis, Origen and 'the Hebrews' as authorities. He is outside the Patrologia and off this edition's Latin bench, and his Latin is transcribed from a printed page rather than sliced from the TEI.
